Sokoto State Guber Tribunal Upholds Governor Ahmed Aliyu's Victory, Dismisses PDP's Petition

Sokoto, Nigeria - In a pivotal ruling, the Sokoto State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has upheld the victory of Governor Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while dismissing the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Saidu Umar. The PDP had challenged the outcome of the March 18, 2023, governorship election in the state.

The three-man panel of judges, led by Justice Haruna Mshelia, cited the petitioners' failure to substantiate their claims beyond a reasonable doubt as the primary reason for their decision.

Justice Mshelia stated, "The petitioners failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt. All documents tendered by the petitioners (PDP), including 'All For E40G,' and other documents against Governor Ahmed Aliyu, are deemed incompetent and are hereby expunged."

The Tribunal's ruling serves as a significant verdict in the aftermath of a closely-watched legal battle surrounding the Sokoto State gubernatorial election. Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the APC candidate, will continue to lead the state following the Tribunal's decision.
