NNPP National Working Committee Disputes Suspension of Presidential Candidate Kwankwaso

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has forcefully rejected the alleged suspension of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party's designated 2023 Presidential Candidate. The NNPP's National Auditor, Ladipo Johnson, vehemently refuted the suspension during a press conference held at the party's national headquarters in Abuja.

Johnson, a former spokesperson for the Kwankwanso Presidential Campaign Council, declared the purported suspension of Kwankwaso as null and void. The controversy arose from a faction within the party led by Boniface Aniebonan, a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), which claimed to have suspended Kwankwaso for six months due to alleged anti-party activities following a parallel National Executive Committee (NEC) gathering in Lagos.

In response, Johnson challenged the legitimacy of the suspension, raising questions about the credibility of the faction's claims. He criticized the credibility of those behind the suspension, pointing out that the individuals involved had themselves been suspended or expelled from the party, rendering their actions questionable. Johnson further questioned whether the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been informed about the decision and whether proper protocols had been followed.

He highlighted the irony of Major Agbo, the individual who had previously announced the suspension and expulsion of former chairmen as well as the dissolution of certain states, now purportedly leading the caretaker committee. Johnson expressed his frustration with what he deemed to be a trivialization of politics and party administration, emphasizing the need for a more serious and responsible approach.

The NNPP's NWC's forceful response underscores the internal tensions and divisions that can arise within political parties, especially in the run-up to significant elections. The dispute highlights the importance of clear communication, adherence to party constitutions, and transparent decision-making processes to maintain the credibility and unity of political parties.
