FCTA Refutes Claims of Demolition of 6,000 Houses and PDP Secretariat by Minister Wike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has refuted media reports suggesting that the newly appointed FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, ordered the demolition of 6,000 houses in various settlements across Abuja, as well as the PDP national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, of which the minister is a member.

Anthony Ogunleye, the director of press at the minister's office, dismissed the reports as entirely false and lacking any factual basis.

Ogunleye clarified that at no point did Wike issue directives or statements regarding the widespread demolition of houses, emphasizing that the minister had only mentioned the removal of illegal structures for the overall benefit of FCT residents in his inaugural speech.

The FCTA condemned the sensational nature of the reports, asserting that they aimed to mislead the public and undermine responsible and well-researched journalism. The FCTA highlighted that the development and upkeep of the FCT are guided by well-defined policies, focusing on sustainable urban growth and residents' rights preservation.

Decisions in this regard are grounded in thorough evaluations, community consultations, and adherence to legal principles. Additionally, Wike addressed a separate report about a purported ₦300 million bulletproof car linked to him, clarifying during a project tour that the vehicle is a regular SUV, not bulletproof, as claimed by the online source.
